Sponsors are Al-Anon members who are committed to working and living the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions to the best of their ability. Sponsors share the program up to their level of experience and in doing so strengthen their own recovery through this service to others. Our literature recommends working with a Sponsor. To find a Sponsor, look for someone in your Al-Anon meeting groups who is using the program with good recovery and who you feel comfortable with sharing your experience.
Sponsorship is not required, but members have found it to be a valuable opportunity to gain more personal understanding of the program of Al-Anon. Having more personal support between meetings can help members apply the tools of the Al-Anon program.
When you take on a service position in Al-Anon, consider asking someone who has done that service before to be your Service Sponsor.
